Facilitates Client Growth
Partners with the client to transform learning and insight into action. Promotes client autonomy in the coaching process.
Description
This competency is about helping clients translate awareness into meaningful action and sustainable growth. Facilitating growth involves partnering with clients to design actions, establish accountability, and integrate learning. It's not about telling clients what to do, but supporting them in determining their own path forward. Effective coaches help clients identify what they need to be successful, recognize and celebrate progress, and learn from all experiences—successes and setbacks alike. The goal is to build the client's capacity for ongoing self-directed growth beyond the coaching relationship.

Help clients extract learning from both successes and setbacks
Practice effective session closure that includes commitments and next steps

Common Mistakes to Avoid
Suggesting or prescribing actions instead of partnering
Pushing clients to commit to more than they're ready for
Imposing your accountability system rather than co-creating
Focusing only on what didn't work instead of celebrating progress
Letting sessions end without clear commitments or closure
Making actions about external results instead of internal growth
Not exploring potential obstacles and support needs
Creating action plans that are too ambitious or not specific enough
